Proofreader's comments

さて、ニューバージョンの原稿の英文校正が返ってきた。いくつか、proofreaderからのコメント。

Don't frame the paper as a historical narrative.  Just say what remained unknown, what you did to fill the gap, what happened when you did it, and what the results mean.

ふむ、なるほど。

あと、基本的な文法に関すること。

In American (as opposed to British) usage, prefixes (including "non-," "post-," "multi-," "over-," "pro-," and "co-") are appended directly, without hyphens.

In American (as opposed to British) usage, single quotation marks are reserved for a single use -- marking a quotation within a quotation.  Double quotation marks are used in all other situations.

In American (as opposed to British) usage, periods and commas always precede closing quotation marks.  Colons and semicolons always follow, and other marks (like ? and !) precede or follow, according to whether or not they are part of the quoted material.
